Is larazotide FDA-approved?

Investigational. Not FDA-approved.

Overview

Larazotide was built to stop gluten from loosening the gaps between gut cells. In a phase 2b trial, the lowest dose reduced celiac symptoms in people already on a gluten-free diet, while higher doses didn't beat placebo. The phase 3 trial was halted after an interim look.

How it works

It works in the gut to keep tight junctions, the seals between gut cells, from opening in response to gluten.

How long does larazotide stay in the body?

Acts locally in the gut; not absorbed much.

What it's studied for

Related: Thymalin, DSIP, VIP (Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide), Melanotan II.
